    Abstract: A symmetric bidirectional wavelength-division-multiplexed passive optical network (WDM-PON) scheme is demonstrated with remotely pumped erbium-doped fiber amplifier and noise suppressed amplified spontaneous emission light source by using gain-saturated cascaded semiconductor optical amplifier. 10 Gb/s transmission can be achieved by using larger effective area fiber and forward error correction.
