Abstract: As we enter the 21st century, much is being discussed about how globalization of the world's economic, political, technological and environmental systems have altered the knowledge and skills young people need to become effective world citizens. Global education has become one of the emerging issues of education reform. The purpose of this action research is to investigate how cultural learning can be integrated with educational technology in junior high school ELT class through a global education project---ShowMe the World. This project initiated by the University of
Missouri, U.S.A. is aimed to help create structured opportunities for teachers and students to use technology to interact directly with, and learn from teachers and students from other countries. It is hoped that through this collaborative relationship, students practice communication, problem-solving and decision-making skills so that they are able to become responsible members of not only their society, but also the world's society as well. This action research was conducted in Taipei Municipal Cheng-Zheng Junior High School (C.Z.J.H.) in Nankang District, by the researcher in his English class with 25 students. Students and teachers in Taiwan, through this technology-based project, worked in a collaborative setting with peers from Missouri, U.S.A. The class-to-class partnership helped Taiwan students, as well as students in other parts of the world gain the knowledge and skills to gather, analyze, and apply information and ideas. This paper describes the process of this project in terms of teacher's instructional design, students' learning in cultural awareness and roles of technology. Results and reflections are also provided for those interested in ELT, cultural learning, technology integration, global education and international collaboration.
