摘要:	Dublin Core is a new metadata standard developed in 1995. It issimpler than the MARC which is commonly employed in most libraries tocatalog their resources. This paper is to propose a personalinformation agent (PIA) system in which the information retrieved isdescribed and managed by the use of Dublin Core metadata in order tosave the users from time-consuming and tedious search activities forinformation over the Internet, as well as to provide a better servicein terms of information retrieval. Another advantage of using DublinCore metadata standard is to facilitate the exchange of informationvia XML/RDF. To adapt to the needs of the Object Web, PIA furthersupports an object plug-in platform to provide more professionalinformation retrieval services. It allows different service providersto design their own proprietary interfaces, which can be embedded intothe platform. It also facilitates the development of middlewares thatcan access information from different Web sites or perform distributedcomputing under the ongoing CORBA or Java RMI.
