    Abstract: There has never been an industry-wide benchmarking study of the levels of information systems used in distribution centers. The primary purposes of this study were to examine empirically information systems adoption of distribution centers in the Taiwanese industry. To address the primary aim, a questionnaire-based survey was conducted to determine the level of information systems utilization in distribution centers. Fifty-four distribution centers from across Taiwan have each been assessed for the levels of information systems employed on 24 different logistics activities. Information systems that are not related to logistics process are outside the scope of this study. The research provides important results on the uses of technology in common logistics activities. This paper reports on the findings of empirical research on the adoption of information technology (IT) at the phase and activity levels. Findings from this study provide direction for the decision making of IT investment and are helpful to managers in deciding whether to apply information systems to certain activities in distribution centers.
