In recent years, Higasino Keigo has become one of the most popular writers in Japan. Many of his works have been adapted to the screen and TV dramas, among which the Detective Galileo series were box office hits and enjoyed pretty good ratings. In addition to fascinating stories, the protagonist is the key to the success of Detective Galileo. Focusing on the Detective Galileo series, this study tries to explore the image of detectives depicted by Higasino Keigo.

This study was divided into four parts. The first chapter researched the history of detective novels in Japan. Next, the image of Detective Galileo was analyzed. Chapter three examined the props that were recurring throughout the novel with symbolic meaning. The last chapter explored the characteristics of Detective Galileo and his reasoning. By carrying out the above-mentioned analysis, the image of detectives depicted by Higasino Keigo will be clearer.
