With the damped eddy frequencies i.n turbulent floI', , the drag reduction of polymeric solutions can be theori~ed by simulating the eddy movement by a harmonic oscillating plate in a large body of fluid. The constitutive equation employed is the corotational Jeffreys model. This analysis .shows that a maximuln drag reduction limit can be attained when the retardation time does not vanish. However, when the retardation time vanishes, the model pre dicts unlimited drag reduction which is analogous to the .she_ar thinning viscosity of the- Maxwellian fluids. The calculated concentration and diameter effects qualitatively agree with the experimental data except those highly shear degraded solutions.
