This article concerns the modernization process of salt industry in the beginning of the Colonial Japanese in Taiwan. In this article, we make the inference that the Nozaki Taiwan Enko had participated in the exploitation of the salt pans according to related historical information and the previous research in the domain of salt industry. From the beginning of its domination in Taiwan, the Japanese government had initiated investigations in order to make good use of the salt pans in Taiwan. Also, the salt manufacturers facing operation difficulties in Japan had suggested the government to do so in hope of making good use of the salt pans in Taiwan. Thus, these reports became the sources for the manufacturers to absorb information of the salt industry in Taiwan. In this historical background, the Nozaki family may also have obtained the information of the salt industry in Taiwan through these investigation reports, and started off their survey by sending people to Taiwan. Gradually, the Nozaki family decided to propose their application and ensure their participation in exploiting the salt pans in Taiwan.
