Abstract: This article presents a method for determining the required number and locations of transmitting antennas (TXs) to optimize wireless propagation coverage in an indoor ultra wideband (UWB) communication system. In the coverage prediction model, we use the three-dimensional ray-tracing technique associated with a particle swarm optimization (PSO), and asynchronous particle swarm optimization (APSO) for optimizing the TXs location in an indoor environment. The three-dimensional ray tracing and optimization algorithm was applied in indoor environment to find the best location of the TXs by maximizing the power in the coverage area. A deployment is proposed to minimize the TXs and maximize the power in the coverage area. Simulation results illustrate the feasibility of using the integrated ray-tracing, and optimization methods to find the optimal transmitter locations in determining the optimized coverage of a wireless network. The APSO has better optimization results compared to the PSO and numerical results also show that the APSO outperforms the PSO in convergence speed.
