Introduction: 本系創立於民國45年，民國77年成立碩士班，民國88年成立博士班，民國90年成立進修學士班，民國92年成立碩士在職專班，持續以關懷中國學術與時代等課題為發展之導向；並以中華文化為基礎，察時變於傳統與現代之間，會通文學、思想、政治、社會等範疇，省視我國文化發展之軌跡，配合社會脈動，呈顯時代精神，培養弘遠博雅之人才，以建構當代中華學術。本系目前研究重點與發展方向，係奠基於長期舉辦「社會與文化國際會議」、「文學與美學國際會議」等學術成果，繼續擴充與強化而來；未來將以世界漢學為發展重心，以促成學術國際化，並以資訊化方式處理古典文獻，以期賦予古代經典新詮釋與新生命。
The Department of Chinese was founded in 1956. The Department of Chinese seeks to create a Chinese culture for this generation by combining classicism and moderism. It adheres to the ideals of the nuturing spirit of the humanities and promotes cultural quality through a deep search of traditional Chinese learning, as well as through constant inquiring into the relationship between traditional Chinese learning and contemporary culture by manifold academic exchange activities. The Graduate Institute of Chinese Literature, foundes in 1988(M.A. Degree) and 1999(Ph.D.), has the major objective of integrating Chinese literature and aesthetics, traditional society and culture.
