Abstract: This work numerically evaluates the fluid flow field and hydrodynamic drag exerted on a highly porous sphere moving through the centerline of a circular tube filled with a Newtonian fluid at a Reynolds number ranging from 0.1 to 40. When the sphere’s permeability becomes high, no boundary layer separation occurs in the after-sphere region at a large Reynolds number. The drag force data presented herein can be used to approximately estimate the drag force of processes considering a highly porous sphere moving through the centerline of a circular tube.
