    摘要: 歷經清帝國乾隆、嘉慶、道光、咸豐四個皇朝的鄭用錫(1788-1858)，享有「開臺進士」的榮銜，在朝廷為官僅三年，五十歲即因母老乞養歸里。

    鄭用錫對鄉里有何貢獻？在當時他的風評如何？對後世又有何影響？
    鄭用錫在地方上居領導地位的士紳角色，是何種因緣際會讓他成為「開臺進士」？
    鄭用錫的詩歌內容及藝術特色為何？何以他的詩被連橫評為「多制藝，詩亦平淡」？這些都是本文所要探討的問題意識。

    鄭用錫祖籍福建漳浦，後定居竹塹。道光三年(1823)癸未科進士，為臺灣本籍第一位進士，稱「開臺黃甲」晚年建築北郭園，帶動北臺文教，自成一園林詩派。日人伊能嘉矩稱鄭用錫為「北臺偉人」，本文對鄭用錫詩作品的研究以刊行的《北郭園全集‧北郭園詩鈔》五卷為主。

    本文共分五章，主要探討鄭用錫其人與其詩作品。要研究鄭用錫生平，自應溯其先世，瞭解其家族概況，認識其家族成員，所以先敘寫鄭用錫之先世與家族，再來介紹鄭用錫之生平，接著闡發其詩作品之內容及藝術特色，探究鄭用錫詩歌之價值，最後總結前文，歸納鄭用錫之成就及對後代之影響。
    Zheng Yong-xi (1788-1858),as the first Taiwanese candidate, was an official for only three years, because he left the position and went back his hometown for taking his old mother. Zheng played an important role in the locality. Why did Zheng become the first Taiwanese candidate? What influences did he have on the town? How did people in his age think about him? What influences does he have on recently times? What are contents and distinguishing features in his poetry? All about those are issues in the study.

    Zheng’s forefather lived in Fu-jian but his members settled down in Zhu-qian. In 1823, he was the first Taiwanese candidate called “Kai-tai-haung-jia”. In Zheng’s late life, he built Bei-guo-yuan to promote education and literature in the north of Taiwan and created a “Yuan-lin-shi Faction”. Japanese, Yi-Neng-Jia-Ju, called Zheng as “Bei-tai-wei-ren”. The study focuses on his books- “Bei-guo-yuan Shi Chao”.

    The study includes five chapters. Discussing Zheng’s character and his poetry is th main idea. First, the author researches Zheng’s background from his forefather to family members. Next, the author introduces Zheng’s life and finds out the artistic characteristics and value by analyzing contents of Zheng’s poetry. Finally, the author expects to sum up all Zheng’s achievements and influences that Zheng had on modern times.
