    Abstract: 在歐盟資金自由流通的原則下,各會員國的金融市場已緊密的連結一起,當一個會員國發生的銀行危機也會無國界的蔓延,因此穩定歐盟的金融市場是在銀行自由化後重要的課題。

Under the frame of the free movement of capital in the European Union (EU), the European financial market has been step by step established and the financial market among member states has closely integrated. A banking crisis in a member state can be widespread and has impact on other member states. Hence, stabilizing the financial market has become an important issue for the EU.

Deposit is the basis of the banking business. The deposit guarantee system not only protects depositors, but also stabilizes banking business in the financial system. Therefore, establishing the deposit guarantee system on the EU’s financial market has contributes to the banking liberalization. It is also an important element for the EU’s banking supervision. The deposit guarantee closely depends on the historical background, financial legal system and economic development among member states. Therefore, harmonizing member state’s deposit guarantee system is a challenge for the EU.

This thesis works on the current harmonization of the EU’s deposit guarantee system, and taking UK as an example, describes the transformation of the EU’s deposit guarantee system. UK has reformed its financial market since 1986. The global financial crisis in 2008 has impacted on the UK’s financial market. The Financial Service Compensation Scheme in UK has rebuilt the depositor’s confidence, and reformed the financial market. This thesis finally focuses on the measures of reform in UK, such as higher coverage, short pay-out time and public understanding.
