简介：民國53年設立五年制灌溉工程科與水土保持科，56年改制為四年制大學，59年合併兩系為水利工程學系下分灌溉工程組與水土保持組，63年廢組，73年設立水資源研究所，77年為整合校內水及環境工程學領域之教授於水利工程學系而設立台灣首要水資源及環境工程學系，水資源研究所亦易名為水資源及環境工程研究所，78年成立博士班。本系首要階段性功能為配合政府政策，協助發展國內水及環境資源工程及保護之學校教育與社會教育與培育初、中、高級工程師以解決台灣地區水資源及環境工程領域人才不足之現象，未來更計畫朝向水及環境生活資源永續經營及利用之長遠目標。
The Department of Water Resources and Environmental Engineering was founded in 1988 and consists of an interdisciplinary undergraduate program, offering joint programs in the fields of water resources and environmental engineering, and separate graduate programs for M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. The undergraduate program offers an introduction to the basic knowledge required for water resources and environmental majors, providing them with a strong foundation for further pursuit in related fields of study. The department provides a MS degree that furthers the professional knowledge of the students, trains them to become associate engineers, and develops potential researchers. The Ph.D. program allows the students to develop into senior engineers who can perform professional research and benefit the society.
