An analytical model is presented to examine the performance of multiple tuned mass dampers for the long span bridges subjected to wind excitation. The reductions of dynamic response by the attachment of the MTMD to the bridge are discussed. Through a parametric analysis, the characteristics of MTMD are studied and the design parameters including mass, damping, bandwidth and total number of TMDs are proposed. A comparison of effectiveness between a single TMD and the MTMD is also made in this paper. The results show that the MTMD, deisnged with the recommended parameters, is more effective and more robust than the usual single TMD against the wind-induced vibration.
