The article examines the cross-cultural poetry and prose of Gary Snyder. The author contends that Snyder is a transcultural ecopoet, describing him as a syncretist who combines different cultural and geographic origins in order to generate a new world ecopoetics. The role of Snyder as a translator and cultural mediator between China and the world is examined. The author proposes Snyder's translation of the "Cold Mountain" poems as a classic example of world literature.
