Introduction: 土木系於民國49年成立，於70年成立研究所碩士班，85年成立土木工程研究所博士班。本學系以培育土木專業理論和資訊科技能力兼備之現代化工程人才為目的。大學部教學目標以培養具通才識能之土木學士為主，配合本校相關科系之開授課程，鼓勵學生廣泛的修習土木相關領域知識。研究所教學及研究則分為結構、大地及運輸工程組，施以專業化訓練。為工程界儲備碩士以上高級人力或培養學術研究專才，以充沛國家發展之競爭力。本系學生人數約計大學部750人，研究生80人，為淡江大學大型學系之一。
Founded in 1960, the department of Civil Engineering offers both regular and evening undergraduate classes with advanced graduate work including master's program (started in 1981) and Ph.D. program (in 1996). For objective of the education, the department prepares students for careers towards industry, business, government and academia. Enrollment in CE Department generally exceeds 750 students that include approximately 80 graduate students. Besides the general aspects in the field of civil engineering, the department puts its embassies on three majors: Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering and Transportation Engineering. The excellence in both teaching and research has been pursuit as the primary goal of the department.
