Abstract:
This study aims to construct a production scheduling system by using two models, one is constructed through the syntax of Lingo 9.0 and the other is developed by Visual Basic software, to conduct the search approach of the optimal solution for the scheduling problem of make-to-order production. The major contributions of this paper are as follows: Firstly, the production quantity, the shortage quantity, and the holding period before the delivery time of each product in any order are found in this work. Secondly, the production system layout for producing a given product is determined by the solution found in the first model. The hybrid investigation of scheduling problem and production layout is the last contribution. The main frame of this study for considering the manufacturing cost, resource cost, holding cost, and tardiness cost is developed in the first model and the optimal solution is achieved by the built-in “global solver” method of the Lingo software. The solving approach of the layout of production system adopts the model and its solving program [4] to conduct the production system deployment. In summary, the proposed work provides a highly repeated characteristic because of the application of the packaged software. Based on the above-mentioned characteristic, this paper can solve other scheduling problems easily as well as the determination of production layout by changing the associated input parameters only.
