In this project, I estimate finite mixture models in which economies are sorted into groups based on the similarity of their conditional inequality growth distributions. The relationship between inequality growth and its determinants are allowed to differ across groups. I determine whether social capital generates parameter heterogeneity in the inequality evolution process by examining whether social capital measures help to sort economies into different inequality growth processes. Namely, a finding that social capital indexes are significant class membership predictors constitute evidence that economies follow different inequality growth regimes due to differences in their level of social capital. The empirical results should shed light on how social capital alters the impacts of economic growth, ethnic diversity, government activity, and population growth on changes in income inequality.
