Techno-science as religion and Christian/anti-Christian futurism through the philosophical novels of M. Houellebecq and M. Dantec This project in two year is centered on the analysis of the novels by two French contemporary authors, Michel Houellebecq and Maurice Dantec. They represent the new generation of Futurism literature, both having been strongly influenced by sci-fi and techno-punk movement. Moreover, there is a evident presence in their novels of religious themes, treated in a contrastive way: M. Houellebecq translates religious themes within a strong materialistic setting, while M. Dantec spiritualizes some aspects of the techno-science. Those themes revolve around the body and its transformations and for both authors, the body is used as a point of focalization of the narration. This research project is a detailed examination of the meshing of religious and sci-fi themes in the work of those two authors. The research project I submit here is, specially in the case of M. Dantec, a pioneer study. It is conceived from the start as an interdisciplinary study, at the cross-road between sci-fi literature theory, religious studies/theology and philosophy.
