According to the recent literature, the rise of discontent losers in the national election has jeopardized the majority rule in modern democracies. This research attempts to explore increasing conflicts between the KMT and the DDP supporters in terms of the loser's consent theory. There are three main questions: (1)What are the characteristics of discontent losers? (2)What are the trends of the losers' political attitudes? How can we understand losers' political attitudes by relating to Taiwan's democratization? (3) How do the losers change their political attitudes? How can we explain the shift of political attitudes? Three methods will be applied in this study: the secondary data analysis, the panel study, and the expert interview. Sources of the secondary analysis are face-to-face interview data collected by the TEDS in 2004, 2008, and 2012 presidential elections. The panel study will be based on the data collected by phone interviews held in May 2012 and May 2013, respectively.
