    Abstract: 養生是道家思想的重要內容,《莊子.養生主》便是最早、最明確的篇章之一,此外《老子》書中亦不乏種種可發展為養生說之篇章。此外,漢代道教、魏晉玄學皆有養生之討論,此見養生問題在道家思想中的重要影響。養生乃是以生為對象,因此,生之內容亦即是養生之內容。吾人可方便將生之內容,由心與形二義加以說明,養生不只是形軀之養,而且亦涉及心靈的修養,就前者而言,即為養生的經驗義,也就是就現實經驗之內容實現養生;就後者而言,則養生只是心境之修養與轉換,屬於養生的境界義。即就莊子而言,其養生觀應是兼具境界義與經驗義,此中養心具優先性而養形則具必要性,能兼養心神身形,方為養生之全義。此義不僅內篇如此,外雜篇亦然,果如此,則吾人便可將道教及魏晉之種種養生說皆納入道家養生說之發展,而不視為歧出或沉落如勞思光教授所說。此當為莊子養生觀之善解所在。
