Introduction: 教育部於八十年八月十一日函請本校加強研究兩岸關係，並建議成立「中國大陸研究所」。 民國八十一年九月成立「中國大陸研究所」，以培養從事大陸及兩岸文教、經貿事務之專業 人才為宗旨，並與學術界、實務界密切交流，並透過學術交流活動，達成學術教學與實務結合的目標。民國八十八年九月奉准成立在職專班，提供在職人士進修之另一管道。本所的教學目標旨在培養中國大陸與兩岸文教、經貿事務的專業人才。在中國大陸暨兩岸關係之政治、經濟、社會的快速變遷中，希望透過理論與實務相互結合的課程暨專業的師資，培養符合兩岸社會需求的專業人才。

Fifty years ago separation prevented the people in Taiwan from taking a close look at the political and economic developments, and many other changes in culture, education, laws and regulations in Mainland China. Nowadays, cross-strait relations have entered a brand new stage with close personal relationships as well as economic and trade exchanges between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait. The time for launching thorough and comprehensive research on Mainland China is ripe.These developments prompted the Ministry of Education to dispatch an official request, dated August 11, 1991, to Tamkang University. The request asked Tamkang to conduct research on cross-strait relations. The Ministry of Education even suggested that a Graduate Institute of Chinese Studies be established to train researchers to undertake in-depth studies on Mainland China affairs to promote practical solutions and ways to cope with the ever-changing cross-strait situation in the future. Besides, we have been offering a master program since 1998.
