Many industrial solid-liquid separation processes involve aggregates of sub-micron particles. The stability of the colloidal systems is controlled by surface charge on the particles. Aggregation of these sub-micron particles can be achieved by addition of appropriate electrolyte and polymeric flocculant. Despite the long term development of the colloid science, the researchers focus on the kinetic of the aggregation in the past years. But the structure of the aggregates formed was less known. Owing to the non-fully understanding of the aggregates structure, researchers generally assumed the real complex structure of the aggregates to have a homogeneous internal structure. This kind of simplication doesn』t fit to the real conditions. In recent years, fractal dimension is used to describe the structure of the aggregates. Some techniques to measure fraction like light scattering, free settling, and image analysis. This project will discuss the relation between the growing kinetics of the aggregates and its internal structure by chancing the concentration of polymeric flocculant, pH value, temperature etc.
