A nonionic surfactant, polyoxyethylene Octyl phenyl ether (Triton-X), is mixed with an anionic surfactant, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), to low the critical micellar concentration (CMC) of the anionic surfactant. Combination of the surfactant mixtures with ultrafilter, i.e., micellar-enhanced ultrafiltration process (MEUF), was employed for removing Cu and organic contaminant (trichloroethylene, TCE) simultaneously. The effects of adding Triton-X and TCE on the copper removal efficiency, the permeate SDS concentration, the copper binding capacity of SDS micelles, and membrane fouling are investigated.
