This paper presents a case study on the development and implementation of an
executive information system using relational rules from relational database design and
implementation. It is an approach to extract customer knowledge for sales management
and marketing in a retailing mall in Taiwan. Customer knowledge from extraction is
designed and maintained in the knowledge base in order to provide knowledge
management capabilities to the case firm. In this regard, this research has begun to design
and implement a executive information system using the relational database approach,
including conceptual and logical database design in order to generate cross-selling and
marketing proposals for sales management. The system process and analysis results are
presented. In addition, discussion and future research are described. Thus, this study is not
only the practical development of a executive information systems development, but also
an academic research to explore retailing sales management based on database technology.
