Abstract: The article presents a study which examines the effect of balanced score card (BSC)-based incentive plan on the financial and non-financial performance of the nursing department in a hospital in Taiwan. The study reveals that BSC-based incentive plan improves patient satisfaction rate, goal achievement rate and blood preparation error rate. It suggests that the plan motivates nurses to exert more effort and enhance their performance.
