Abstract: This paper investigates the different flow channel design effects on direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) performance. Three types of DMFC flow channels were fabricated and discussed in this paper. The first type is a single serpentine flow channel; the second type is the smooth corner serpentine flow channel, and the third type is the unilateral crooked serpentine flow channel. Experimental investigations into the DMFC polarization curves with different flow channel combinations were conducted. The results show that the anode flow channel type effect is larger than the cathode flow channel type. The DMFC with the unilateral crooked serpentine flow channel could increase the DMFC performance.
