Introduction: 淡江大學日文系以貫徹政府之教育政策，為國家培育五育並進，術德兼修之優秀日本語文人才為宗旨。成立於民國55年7月，原名「東方語文學系」，主授日本語學、文學及有關日本社會、文化、法政、經貿等課程。多年來由於中日兩國交流日益頻繁，急需新血輪之注入，日文系日間部遂於民國62年奉教育部令將招生人數增為兩班，夜間部亦於民國80年增為兩班。民國74年由原「東方語文學系」正名為「日本語文學系」。民國86年配合教育部之夜間部轉型政策，停止夜間部招生，而將日間部增為四班。95學年度起設立日本語文學系碩士班。日文系主要任務及目標為提供高品質課程以迎合逐漸增加之社會需求，並教育學生有關台灣與日本間之語言與文化關係。
The Department of Japanese originally named Department of Eastern Languages was established in 1966,which offered such cources as lauguage, economy, politics, and culture of Japan. Because of rapid increase of the number of students to study japanese and japanese culture and society at Tamkang University, the department started to open two freshman classes in 1973. In 1985,the Department of Eastern Languages was changed to the department of Japanese. The mission and purpose of the Department of japanese is to offer highly qualified courses to meet the increasing demands from society, and educate students about the language and culture both in Taiwan and Japan.
