簡介：本系成立於民國 47 年 7 月，於民國 55 年 7 月分設數學組及數理統計組（原數理統計組於民國 93 年 8 月更名為資料科學與數理統計組）；民國 59 年 8 月增設研究所碩士班，並於民國79年增設博士班；民國 98 年 8 月增設中等學校教師在職進修數學教學碩士學位班（碩專班）；民國 105 年 8 月原數學學系碩士班更名為數學學系數學與數據科學碩士班 ；同年原中等學校教師在職進修數學教學碩士學位班轉型為數學學系碩士在職專班；然而，教育政策及市場需求的變化，數學學系碩士在職專班於 111 學年度停招。隨著數據科學在各領域的應用日益廣泛，希望突顯數據科學的重要性，並強調其在應用數學中的地位，從而吸引更多對應用數學與數據科學有興趣的學生，故於民國 113 年 8 月數學學系更名為應用數學與數據科學學系，以反映本系在學科範疇上的拓展和發展趨勢。

This department was founded in 1958 and since 1966 it has consisted of the mathematics and the mathematical statistics sections. The master program was established in 1970 with the addition of the Ph.D. program in 1990. In August 2009, a master’s program for in-service students was introduced. However, due to changes in education policy and market demand, the Department of Mathematics Master’s Program for In-Service Students was discontinued in the 2022 academic year. In August 2024, the department was renamed the Department of Applied Mathematics and Data Science to reflect its expansion and development trends in the field.
