簡介：本系成立於民國47年7月，於民國55年7月分設數學組及數理統計組，民國59年8月增設研究所碩士班，分數學及數理統計兩組，並於79年增設博士班。旨在培養數學、數理統計及相關科學應用與研究人才，提供全校學生基礎數學與數學通識之課程，並經由數學學習培養學生思考、組織、分析與表達之能力．教學特色為理論與實用並重，並運用數學軟體增加學生對於理論之實質了解，以其強化學生應用之能力，同時，通過統計諮詢之訓練，提供學生實務練習之機會．

This department was founded in 1958 and since 1966 it has consisted of the mathematics and the mathematical statistics sections. The master program was established in 1970 with the addition of the Ph.D. program in 1990. The primary goal of the department is to provide students with the opportunities to understand basic concepts of mathematics, to explore various areas and to broaden their views in mathematics and statistics. The department offers both need-based and merit-based scholarships.
