We propose to microscopically study the rich physical properties of Fe-, Co- and Ni-based Heusler alloys using synchrotron radiation spectroscopy techniques. Major experimental works are x-ray absorption (XAS), which includes extended x-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) and x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD), and x-ray emission spectroscopy (XES). Information, provided by the spectroscopic, measurements including electronic and atomic structures and the magnetic moment distribution of specific atom will be utilized for the analysis of the following subjects. The effect of Ni/Mn ratio on the martensitic and ferromagnetic transformation of a series of Ni2+xMnxGa alloys, effect of Si and Ge doping on the thermoelectric and transport properties of Fe2VAl based materials and the electric and magnetic properties of Co2CrAl based half-metallic materials.
