The use of recycled asphalt pavement (RAP) will be the future trend with the advantages of promoting the environment protection and mitigating the shortage of aggregate supply problem. Mxing and compacting temperatures increase with higher RAP contents. The benefits of using RAP with the warm-mix agents include: reduced emissions, reduced fuel usage, and better field compaction with less effort. Warm mix asphalt (WMA) can provide equal to or better performance than traditional hot-mix asphalt (HMA).
This study was conducted to examine the relationships among temperature, warm-mix agents, and RAP. Dosages of 0%, 35%, and 70% RAP with 1.5% Sasobit®H8 and 2% RedisetTMWMX, respectively, were used in this study. Tests were conducted under 148℃, 128℃, and 108℃ compacting temperatures after the dense-graded Marshall Design to compare the workability of the mixtures. Indirect tensile strength, resilient modulus and wheel tracking tests were conducted under the standard and the low (40℃ lower than the standard) compacting temperatures. The results of this study are concluded as follows:
    1. Asphalt mixtures containing RAP showed less workable than the mixtures without RAP. However, warm-mix agents can improve the workability of mixtures with RAP. The mixtures with warm-mix additive at 108℃compaction temperature showed similar workability to the mixtures without warm-mix additive at 148℃.
    2. From the indirect tensile strength test results, it was found that the tensile strength of specimens containing RAP with warm-mix additives is better than that of one without warm-mix additives. The tensile strength of specimen tested at the standard compaction temperature is higher than that of one at the low temperature. The tensile strength of specimens with Sasobit®H8 is lower than that of the ones with RedisetTM WMX.
    3. Our test results showed that the resilient modulus increases with higher RAP contents. The resilient modulus also increases with addition of warm-mix additives. The resilient modulus at the standard compaction temperature was a little higher than that at the low compaction temperature.
    4. The wheel tracking test results showed that the dynamic stability (DS) increases with both RAP contents and the addition of warm-mix additives. The DS at the standard compaction temperature is higher than that at the low temperature.
    5. The statistical analysis concluded that the results of all tests with Sasobit®H8 and RedisetTM WMX were not significantly different. The test values from the indirect tensile, resilient modulus and wheel tracking test results generally increased with increasing RAP contents.
