Style in architecture is a very important issue and has been challenged continuously. Different regions, countries, and culture in the world are trying to find their own architectural characteristics. Some people think that the style of architecture is from the cultural symbols, tectonics, or construction systems. Before modernism flourished, the general perception of the style is from the traditional culture heritage. However, Modernism provides the idea of style gradually from “the re-findings of the past” to pursuing different styles which have never been discovered in the past. All around the world are trying to create a new design features in order to achieve the design creativities.

Information-exchanging has been growing rapidly in the Digital Era, the way people live and the values of aesthetic have been changed fast too. Together with digital technologies and progresses, people have been able to achieve the architectural forms and spaces that can not be constructed in the past. In general, the focus of architectural design has been shifted from the discussion of functionality to the construction and simulations of distinguishing forms. These distinguishing forms include organic forms from the nature as well as new artifacts crafted from the new technologies. Sculpture and textile are two important issues have been discussed extensively, since these two art-performances shared similar process and visual effects similar to architecture. However, the discussion of archi-textile has been limited on two-dimensional decorations on planar-surface, and archi-textile does not affect the design of three-dimensional spaces too much in consequence.

Weaving is a great knowledge, has relationships with other disciplines. This study attempted to find out different methods to apply weaving in the design of spaces. Firstly, mathematical array, geometry,, and physics approach have been taken to identify the composition for the various weaving methods, thus the diagrammatic patterns of textile are induced for understanding these structures, and are applied to the design of new patterns. Secondly, apart from the planar-weaving, this research also tries extend weaving into a more sophisticated level, combining with different surfaces to form more complex surfaces. Finally, different units are composed into the three-dimensional space to perform the concept of archi-textile in the space. In the final design stage, the discussions are following the steps of weaving with line, weaving on the plan, matrix-based weaving, and weaving in the three dimensions. Conclusions are made according to the relationships between the archi-textiles in the space and the related social behaviors, as well as the problems and limitations for applying archi-textiles in the design of space and its construction.
