The importance of environmental issues is becoming increasingly emphasized by manufacturers in the recent decades, and the concept of green supply chain has been proposed, along with the closed-loop product lifecycle design, to improve the greenness of the supply chain. Meanwhile, the use of RFID technology on supply chain nodes may help to achieve better product visibility during its movement from the production stage to the recycling stage. However, debates still exist due to the high implementation costs of the RFID systems. Thus, our research sets up a useful model to evaluate information related costs in green supply chain, for whether RFID technology should be implemented. The nodes to be measured include the producer’s factory, the retailer’s shop and the recycler’s center. In summary, our model is able to help decision makers find out whether RFID tagging should be adopted on certain kinds of products, in order to minimize information costs.
