We construct an endogenous growth model with elastic labor supply, in which agent differ in their initial endowments of physical capital. In this framework, the growth rate and the distribution of income are jointly determined. We present the preference of an individual regarding social status measured by the relative wealth. A higher status seeking motivates agents to work more. It determines a higher the rate of return to capital, which leads a higher the rate of capital accumulation and the distribution of income across agents.
