Abstract: An analytical approach based on the upper bound theorem is presented to analyze the stability of a mailed earth slope. The stress-strain relationships for both soil and nail are idealized as perfectly plasticity. The nail is considered to provide only axial force or subjected to both tensile and shear factor. The cross section of a metal inclusion inserted inside a predrilled hole was used to calculate the axial, shear forces and bending moment resistances. The entire grouted nail dimension was counted in estimating the earth bearing resistance. Analytical results exhabits that for nails resists tension only, the minimum safety factor corresponding to the logarithmic spiral slip surface the has a θ0 value close to the internal friction angle of the soil. Prediction from the proposed method and observations on an experimental wall had good slip surface resist tension only resulted in a slightly conservative.
