During normal-freezing process operations, the solute concentration in the just-freezing solid differs from that in the liquid at the freezing interfaces. Therefore, a freezing interface can push certain solutes, pull others, leading to performed separation. Application of analog simulators to normal freezing of zone refining processes has been discussed in this study. The construction, operation and mathematical representation of normal freezing simulators which are applicable to whole ingot have been presented. It is shown that the results obtained from the normal freezing simulation and experimental data are in excellent agreement with that from analytical solution.
