    Abstract: A separation theory in thermal diffusion columns with a permeable vertical barrier has been derived by making use of the orthogonal expansion method. It is shown that the undesirable remixing effect can be effectively reduced and controlled by introducing a permeable vertical barrier. Considerable improvement in separation was obtained when the position of the barrier was carefully chosen.
