This article looks at several current scenarios in the development of university press in Taiwan. Based on the web census and interviews, 29 universities with publishing section have been carefully examined. The status of university press is slowly changing and the Taiwan scholarly publishing market must encourage and evolve alongside theses changes if it is to have a future. To deal with the weakness and opportunities, this article suggests universities should consider ways to implement digitization, distribution consortium and put the press assessment into the official university evaluation system.
