Bibliometrics, scientometrics and informetrics are three measuring techniques in library and information science. The differences among these three metricses are unclear in some aspects. This paper traces the origins of their definitions. Moreover, the scope, fundamental principles and laws, potential applications and future development of these metricses are also discussed.
