Union catalog has been an indispensable tool to modern Libraries, and plays a decisive role in the effective execution of interlibrary loan and resource sharing. During the past decade, Libraries in the Taiwan area have experienced strong impact. brought by advanced technology and automation system commonly adopted by Libraries in the highly developed countries. Facing this situation, the author tried to explore some possible solutions for us through comparing the history and development of union catalog in Western libraries.
