Abstract: A model describing the time dependence of mating behavior in flies is presented. Flies are assumed to pass through a transition stage before they become mated pairs. Two types of mating behavior were considered: permanent pair formation, and promiscuous pair formation. The present model is capable of predicting previously reported experimental data. The transition stage is shown to cause a lag phase in the formation of mated pairs.
