Multipass zone refining process is power purification technique for separating liquid or solid mixture. Its advantages include increased separation efficiency and decreased operating time. Further, if the zone number and zone length are suitably selected, the maximization of separation efficiency on the ingot can be accomplished. This paper aims to study theoretically the effect of zone lengths which are fixed in each pass of multipass zone-refining processes, on separation efficiency, and the optimum fixed zone lengths in each pass are also determined as a function of the distribution coefficient.
