光纖通訊在新一代傳輸網路中扮演著重要的角色,其主要技術為分波多工(Wavelength Division Multiplexing, WDM)技術。由於WDM的優勢,使得WDM被動光網路(WDM Passive Optical Networks, WDM-PONs)在接取網路方面極具有潛力。 在本篇論文中,我們提出在WDM-PONs中使用法布里珀羅雷射二極體(Fabry-Perot Laser Diode, FP-LD)去提昇或抹除直接調變分佈式回饋雷射(Directly Modulated Distributed Feedback Laser, DML)輸出的光訊號明滅比(Extinction Ratio, ER)。在模擬結果中,DML輸出光訊號明滅比可順利地提昇將近20 dB。在實驗上,我們證明2.5 Gbps DML光訊號之光明滅比可提昇超過10 dB;此外在資料抹除方面亦有顯著的效果。在基於反射式半導體光放大器(Reflective Semiconductor Optical Amplifier, RSOA) WDM-PON中,應用此項資料抹除技術比資料未抹除方式可以減少1.6 dB的功率償付值(Power Penalty)。 Optical communication plays an important role in the next-generation transmission network and its main technique is wavelength division multiplexing (WDM). Due to the advantage of WDM, WDM passive optical networks (WDM-PONs) are very attractive in access networks. In this thesis, we proposed a novel scheme utilizing a Fabry-Perot laser diode to enhance or erase the output extinction ratio of the directly modulated distributed feedback laser (DML) in WDM-PONs. From the simulation results, the extinction ratio of a DML can be successfully improved by nearly 20 dB. From experiment at results, we demonstrated the enhancement of extinction ratio over 10 dB for 2.5 Gbps DML. Moreover, this technique had good performance on data erasion. Compared to the transmission without data erasion, our scheme reduced the power penalty by about 1.6 dB for the reflective semiconductor optical amplifier-based WDM-PONs.
