In this research, the traces for the development from late Chin Dynasty to now (2008) on Taipei are used to explore the correlation between space usage and streets at the Zhonghua Road, From the space forms with Taipei city firstly established in late Chin Dynasty, the views and urban veins at that times can be analyzed. It is aimed to know about the effect caused by space reform on Taipei and the experience of urban space transformation from Japan occupation period and the period after World War II to now.

During the Japan occupation period, Zhonghua Road was an important railway crossing road. But now, it becomes a boulevard. Zhonghua Road used to known as the 3-lane road and it was established in 1900 when the Japan government removed the castle walls of Taipei City to form a road with 11 meters in width. Zhonghua Road was the west traffic line, the widest road and also an important railway crossing road. Till 1949 when the KMT government moved to Taiwan, a large population of people welled in Taipei City. Almost 2 million of new population moving in really made Taipei City brought about dramatic changes to urban space. These new immigrants including merchants and retired soldiers established simple and crude houses along both sides of railway humbly to make their living. Their dwelling houses brought with changes to Taipei''s faces.

In 1960, the Zhonghuwa Shopping Yard became the most brilliant image of Taipei and it used to be the most bustling place in the west region. It was also the origin with modern architectures on Taipei. Zhonghua Road is not only a road with historical background but also a development miniature of Taipei. Tracing back to the development history of Zhonghua Road, the life experience on Taipei urban space and the veins for urban space applicability can be found. After the mass transit systems were operated, Zhonghua Road started to become the most pivotal road at Taipei. The Zhonghua Road nothing but a road for transportation or are there some more activities available? In this article, through the development of Zhonghua Road, the development of Taipei City can be explored. It is also attempted to find the possible upcoming development chances for Zhonghua Road. As such, Zhonghua Road will never be a typical road only. Finally, the opinions to space experience on Taipei are proposed. Through the development experience of Zhonghua Road, the importance of street space to cities can be explored.
