Rumor, an ordinary phenomenon, reveals what we believe and fear. Rumor contains lots of real events, names, or things to testify its trustworthiness. That’s why people tend to believe what rumor says when situation is uncertain. The unfamiliarity of a situation led to a need to explain. Therefore rumor becomes an important explanation to people. We notice that food rumor occurs frequently, and this shows information about health and food is crucial to modern society. Accordingly, this thesis uses Burke’s pentadic analysis to probe into the structure of food rumor. With this analysis we try to explain people’s perspective on food, health, and self. According to our analysis, food rumor reveals the industrialization has brought us to a more unknown condition of diet expect for the commoditization of it. Food rumor happens to be the important information to everyone who cares about health and food in this diverse and risky dietary environment. Food rumor is relevant to this society and its crowd. Consequently, using another way to inspect rumor can lead us to understand more about our living world and our dietary behavior. Above all, this is just our intention to discuss rumor with a brand new aspect.
