This thesis studies the development of the creative content of Taiwanese animation in the age of “glocalization”. There are three objectives of the current thesis. Specifically, the current thesis investigates and analyzes: (1) the histories, processes and existing situations of the creative contents of the domestic and foreign animations; (2) the development, methods and achievements of the creative content of current Taiwanese animation industry; (3) the future development of the Taiwanese animation industry in the age of “glocalization”.
The current thesis employs literature analysis to examine the development of the creative content of the animation industries all over the world, including the United States of America, Japan, China, Korea, Canada, and many European countries. Moreover, by employing in-depth interviews, the current thesis obtains viewpoints and outlooks from the referees of the Taiwanese animation industry, Taiwanese government, and academic scholars from the animation field.
The results show that there are three features of the development in the creative content of foreign animations: (1) the evolution of content from traditional animation to computer animation; (2) the promotion by the governments; and (3) emphasis on an education-based development. In additions, the current thesis discovers that the current Taiwanese animation industry is: (1) still in a preliminary stage; (2) having controversy over the methods of teaching animation to talented persons; and (3) practicing divergent policy and management. With respect to the development of creative content of the future Taiwanese animation industry, the results of the current thesis show that: (1) the creative content of Taiwanese animation should be based on the features of native culture; (2) the element of universal value can enhance the creative content of Taiwanese animation; and (3) the market in Greater China should be taken the first consideration before the Western market.
The current thesis brings up six suggestions for the future development of Taiwanese animation. First, the experts and scholars in the area of animation should collaborate to explore the concept of creativity. Second, the animation industry should encourage employees to generate creativity systematically. Third, the government and animation industry should investigate both the allocation of the talented personae and the demands in the animation industry. Fourth, the authority of the government should be allotted distinctly. Fifth, the animation creators and industries should rediscover the original intention for creating the animation. Sixth, it is necessary to integrate different generations of creators to produce creative animation.
