張之洞是清代最通曉學務的大臣之一，傳統士人出身，基本思想為忠君愛國，但在時代的波瀾下，不得不思考向西方學習借鏡。有別於一般大臣，張之洞推廣教育著力最多，由地方性的「湖北學制」開始並成功，促使他有機會著手規劃全國性的學制。 「癸卯學制」是清代第一個政府頒布並實行的學制，它代表著中國教育由傳統走向現代。而「癸卯學制」的主要規畫者張之洞，參考日本學制、融合張百熙的「壬寅學制」，架構起三段七級且重視實業教育、師範教育的教育體系。 「癸卯學制」體現了張之洞中體西用的思想，張之洞如何在中學的基礎上發展西學，所面臨的侷限與實踐，及其學制對後世的影響，也在本論文中探討。 過去對於張之洞的相關研究大多從政治、經濟、軍事等大範圍探討。本研究就張之洞最初的「湖北學制」與張百熙的「壬寅學制」，至最後的「癸卯學制」，拉出作統合比較，藉此三個學制呈現張之洞中體西用的實踐與學制本身的價值。 Zhang Zhidong is the most thoroughly understands education minister in the Qing Dynasty. As times change He could not but study the Western civilization. Different other ministers, Zhang spread the new education try most much. Since the local education─ Hubei Educational System success , let him have the chance to plan the central educational system.
Guimao Educational System was the first one policy for Qing Government, that represents the Chinese education move toward the new age. Guimao Educational System of the major planner─Zhang Zhidong, he referred the Japanese education system, united the Renyn Educational System brought by Zhang Baexi, built the three levels and seven grades system that values the business and normal education.
Guimao Educational System manifested the Zhang’s thoughts of making western things serve for China. This thesis discuss the Zhang Zhidong how to develop the western education based on China , what limitation he faced and the influence for the future age.
Before related thesis focus on politics, economy and military more. Through this thesis analyses Zhang Zhidong’s Hubei Educational System . Zhang Baexi’s Renyn Educational System and the last Guimao Educational System to present Zhang Zhidong how to make western things serve for China and the merit of the educational system by the three educational systems.
