This study performs a large-scale literature review and uses conceptual framework building to introduce the concept of sustainability to the field of supply chain management and demonstrate the relationships among environmental, energy, and financial performance within a Supply Chain Design (SCD) context.
This study introduces the new framework of SCD and bench mark practices based on energy trends, environmental trends, financial situation, and the business model of the firm. The contribution to the logistics literature is the integration of environmental, energy, and financial criteria that allow an organization to design sustainable supply chain and achieve long-term economic viability. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the sustainability, energy and financial literature, introduces those features to the field of supply chain design, and expands the conceptualization of Supply Chain Design beyond the old practices.
This study looks closely at the supply chain''s core components and discusses what changes must be implemented now to avert problems and seize opportunities. Every solution, of course, has industry specific connotations. Each aspect is considered from North American and European perspectives. This work concludes by discussion of managerial implications and future research directions.
