In the US, there is the West Point Academy, which has successfully graduated a lot of outstanding leaders, including powerful politicians, and veteran military generals. In particular are those like US presidents and CEOs of multinational corporations, who did not receive formal business management education in business colleges of well-known universities. They only graduated from West Point Academy. In recent years, the West Point Academy has often been called “The Cradle of the world’s CEOs”, which is an amazing secret.
This research is especially focused on:When facing crisis, can those presidents, military generals and CEOs acquire knowledge and illumination from their previous military education and training to solve problems outside of military situations? Further, what kind of strategies and methods do they use to reduce or cease crisis, and pull the organization through safely? Furthermore, when facing organization crisis, can a business manager who received military training make decisions faster and easier than one who did not receive military training to solve the crisis? What is the difference between the two types of managers? This is the purpose of my research.
This study is a qualitative research. The following conclusion is based on the results of analysis of literary references and in-depth interviews:
1.Military training can develop crisis management ability.
2.The business executive with a military background is more capable of managing crisis.
3.The capabilities and characteristics of the military surely do contribute to the organization crisis management.
